Gatlin Lumber Company, located at Woodward Switch, was founded in 1939 by Sam Henderson and the late Grover Scott. The 30 acre site for the mill was purchased from Will Taylor. Mulfred S. Gatlin and his brother W. Harry Gatlin, purchased the sawmill and planner mill on May 5, 1942 and within a year, M. S. Gatlin purchased his brother's interest.
In 1957, the firm felt a need for adding a building and supply service to their customers and remains an integral part of the operation. Although the sawmill and planer mill operations ceased in 1975, Mr. Gatlin, through personal holdings of vast tracts of timberland that consisted of southern yellow pine and hardwood lumber, had been able to supply his mill with the timber that was need for manufacturing.
In addition to managing large land holdings and the mill, Mr. Gatlin aided his community in many worth while projects.
